A woman has been charged after displaying a Union flag at a protest near the Bell Hotel in Epping. What was it Starmer and Cooper were saying about “fly the flag?”
On Sunday night, a 40-year-old mother of five was arrested after being removed from a ledge on the first floor of Epping District Council’s offices, where she had been holding the flag. Essex Police confirmed she was charged with failing to comply with a Section 14 order, which restricted public assembly to a designated area marked by low-level fencing across the road from The Bell and required all protest activity to end by 8 p.m. Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper said:
“We’ve consistently said that we’ll always seek to facilitate lawful protest and we have done that throughout this summer. There has been suggestion on social media that we made an arrest on Sunday because someone unfurled a flag. I want to be really clear – that is categorically wrong.”
She is scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on October 15. Co-conspirators can guess what Robert Jenrick would have to say about this…
