A European abortion lobby is warning against “religious extremism” on the rise across the continent, singling out Catholicism and ignoring the threat posed to Europe by Islam. The 158-page report “The Next Wave: How Religious Extremism Is Reclaiming Power,” published by the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual & Reproductive Rights (EPF), faults “religious extremism” for the phenomenon of “accelerating financial expansion of movements working to dismantle decades of hard-won sexual and reproductive rights across Europe.”
The EPF report derides the “anti-rights and religious extremist actors in Europe” working to oppose abortion across the continent, but really only labels Catholics and other Christians as “religious extremist actors.” The report identifies the Catholic Church as the animating force behind “five pan-European platforms: an anti-abortion coalition, an anti-LGBTQI network, a Christian political party, a social media mobilisation [sic] hub and a pseudo-Catholic far-right alliance.” The EPF further claims that a “Catholic financial network is quietly gaining ground — not just bankrolling activism but reshaping Europe’s political playing field.”
Throughout the report, Catholic media organizations and priests are targeted and smeared, while religious organizations like Opus Dei are labeled “anti-rights puppet masters” orchestrating the movement against abortion, LGBT ideology, and all forms of progressivism the continent over.
While the lengthy report devotes pages upon pages to the evil Catholic cabal covertly running Europe and promoting such atrocities as an end to the slaughter of unborn children, Islam warrants only a single passing mention outside of footnotes. Between 2020 and the end of 2024, data from Europol’s Terrorism Situation and Trend Reports recorded nearly 60 jihadist attacks throughout Europe, accounting for dozens of deaths and injuries.
Muslims in Europe have been responsible for bombings, stabbings, driving cars into crowds, and the mass rape of women and children. In Britain, Muslim “grooming gangs” have systematically groomed and raped hundreds of thousands of mostly underage girls over the course of the past several decades. White Christian girls are identified by the Muslims as acceptable for “practice,” instead of deflowering a Muslim girl without marrying her. This would seem to be not only a prime example of “religious extremism,” but also the perfect issue for a self-described women’s rights organization to examine. Yet the EPF ignores the phenomenon and Islam altogether. (RELATED: Paris Is Still Beautiful — From Behind Bulletproof Glass)
The unfortunate and, frankly, horrifying fact is that the mass rape of children poses little to no threat to progressive principles. What does pose a threat is the Catholic Church.
The unfortunate and, frankly, horrifying fact is that the mass rape of children poses little to no threat to progressive principles, nor does the stabbing and beheading of Catholic priests, the firebombing of Catholic churches, and the terrorizing of European Christmas markets. Each of these may actually be just “bonus points” for the progressive. (RELATED: The Outbreak of Migrant-Related Crime and Rape in the EU)
What does pose a threat is the Catholic Church. The eternal and immutable moral code protected, preserved, and proclaimed by the Church throughout the centuries has often confronted the popular ideologies of the day, from the heresies adopted by emperors and warlords in the first centuries after Christ’s death and resurrection to the centuries-long insurgency of the Turks and Ottomans to the bloody evils of the French Revolution and now the modern horrors of abortion and child genital mutilations.
Since progressivism attempts to establish itself as an alternative to the morality of the Church, to claim supremacy and inerrancy for itself, the only threat it faces is that of the Church, the institution which has claimed, in the name of Christ, supremacy and inerrancy for the last 2,000 years, and does so still today. This is why the EPF, comprised largely of elected European Parliament officials, targets the Catholic Church for “religious extremism” while ignoring the rape and murder Islam has wreaked on Europe for years. Islam is clearly barbarism and poses no threat to progressivism, but the Catholic Church is the god that progressivism seeks to topple and replace.
