Ex-Obama aide rages at Joe Biden for believing he would’ve beaten Trump

Daily Caller News Foundation

Former Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer said on Friday he was angry about former President Joe Biden’s renewed claim that he would have defeated President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Biden told “The View” on Thursday that he still thinks he would have won, pointing to his 2020 margin and the closeness of the swing-state results in 2024. Pfeiffer, on his podcast “Pod Save America,” said Biden’s statement was both delusional and insulting to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who took his place as the Democratic nominee in 2024.

“The one thing that I found very frustrating is Biden can’t — I mean, I know this is the, like, we know him, this is the pride in him — but I find it very aggravating and, frankly, infuriating when he says that he thinks he would have won,” Pfeiffer said. “Because I feel like that’s so — it’s politically insane, right?”

“It’s just — it’s like detached from reality. But even that, even if you truly believe that, to verbalize that in such a direct way repeatedly is, to me, so disrespectful of Kamala Harris, who he put in an impossible position in a gazillion ways,” he continued. “Right?”

Biden did not drop out of the presidential race and endorse Harris until July 21, despite his calamitous June 27 debate against Trump.

“From, like, some of the things she had to take on as vice president, to the three weeks in — or whatever it was —between the debate and when he actually got out,” the former Obama aide added. “The month, I guess, 30 days or whatever it was, like, that he took that time.”

“Like … answer that question better, in a more respectful way to your vice president, who, in a different world, would have — if he had stayed in the race, she would have lost as vice president, and she would be the front-runner for the Democratic nomination,” he continued. “She may still be that right now, but it’s different because she was the nominee who lost. And so it’s just like — so that angers me.”

Trump ultimately trounced Harris in November, securing all seven swing states and the national popular vote.

Biden explained on “The View” Thursday that he “wasn’t surprised” by Harris’ loss, citing sexism as a major factor.

“I wasn’t surprised, not because I didn’t think the vice president was the most qualified person to be president. She is,” Biden said. “She’s qualified to be president of the United States of America … I wasn’t surprised because they went the route of the sexist route, the whole route.”

The former president also denied the reports alleging he experienced cognitive decline during his presidency during the interview. However, when answering a question about the reports, he rambled randomly before former first lady Jill Biden stepped in to defend him.

Pfeiffer himself said on his podcast Sunday that he observed the then-president showing signs of cognitive decline in April 2024. Yet the former Obama aide asserted he had no qualms about Biden holding the highest office in the U.S.

“I was at a White House reception and he was bad. He was quite bad in it. And he told the same story twice. He just seemed mostly old,” he said at the time. “In no way did I look at that and say that man cannot do the job of president. I had real concerns that he could not do it for four more years.”
