A father in Iceland says he lost custody of his 11-year-old autistic son after raising concerns about medical treatments related to gender transition, a case that has drawn international attention and prompted a response from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, as reported by Fox News.
Alexandre Rocha, a French national who has lived in Iceland for 25 years, said an Icelandic court stripped him of parental rights in December after he questioned the use of puberty blockers and hormone therapy for his child.
Rocha told Fox News Digital he believes the ruling was influenced by his objections to the long-term effects of those treatments.

“It should be a crime,” Rocha said of the medical interventions:
“You are molesting kids, castrating a boy, like in the case of my kid. This shouldn’t happen. This is an ideology that has no place for kids.”

Rocha said his child, who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder eight months prior to the case, was unable to fully understand the long-term consequences of gender-related medical decisions.
He described his son’s interests as being shaped by video games such as Minecraft and Roblox.
“Naturally, every kid [after a separation and autism diagnosis] will have a mental challenge,” Rocha said.
“The transition is a happy place. They do feel validated, they like the attention… To me, the concern is the long-term. Will they still be happy in four years from now, or six years, from having blockers and having more hormones? Is it really fixing what is underlying — the mental challenge or difficulty, whatever they’re going through?”
Rocha said the autism diagnosis was “slightly passed over” during court proceedings.
He argued that children on the autism spectrum often struggle with identity and self-perception, noting that his son sometimes expressed a desire to be a cat and wore items such as a tail or cat ears.
He said that when these concerns were presented in court, an Icelandic endocrinologist dismissed them under oath and stated that hormone treatments posed “no problem,” while declining to explore underlying mental health issues.
Rocha said he is no longer involved in medical decisions affecting his son and expressed concern about potential treatments being administered without his knowledge.
“It could very well be that he is being treated with hormones, and I don’t know anything about it,” he said.
He also said the child’s mother has continued to support the transition and recently changed the child’s name to a female name, which Rocha said would be reflected on official identification documents.
“I can’t support this kind of speech. This, to me, is diabolical. It’s beyond love,” Rocha said. “When you talk about a kid, you can’t talk about death. It just doesn’t make sense to me.”
Rocha said he believes the court’s ruling was intended to limit his involvement.
“It is to control parents. It is to control me,” he said. “It is to silence me. It is to give all power to this ideology.”
The case has drawn international attention, including from Elon Musk. The Tesla CEO has previously spoken publicly about his own child’s gender transition and said he was “essentially tricked” into consenting to puberty blockers before fully understanding the situation.
Responding to a post about Rocha’s case on X, Musk wrote, “The woke mind virus even affects Iceland.”

Rocha said he was “very surprised and honored” by Musk’s comment.
“I think we have a common fight going on,” he said. “Because at the end of the day, we’re all parents, no matter the borders or nationalities.”
Rocha said he has not seen his son since January and described missing time spent together, including reading stories at night and watching movies.
“I miss story time at night and cooking together,” he said.
He said he recently requested daily fines against the child’s mother, alleging she obstructed court-ordered visitation. According to court documents, the mother denied doing so and said the child refuses visits because Rocha does not accept the child’s gender identity or use the new name.
Rocha submitted a witness affidavit stating that a previous visit went smoothly and that the child appeared comfortable. He also recalled the child saying he “missed it, to be with grandma and my sister.”
“When you don’t know what’s happening on the other side, as a parent, you get really worried,” Rocha said. “We are slowly drifting apart, and that’s a very sad outcome of this.”
