FBI Investigating Strange ‘Incident’ Near Area 51, Airspace Was Temporarily Restricted Due To ‘National Security’

Authorities launched an investigation into an “incident” featuring a military aircraft around Area 51 following the discovery of “tampering,” as well as other materials, at the “mishap location,” according to multiple spokespeople.

Involved in the Sept. 23 incident was an aircraft out of Creech Air Force Base, per a spokesperson who confirmed the information to Las Vegas media outlet KLAS 8 News Now. The base spokesperson also confirmed that no one was injured nor was any property damaged during the incident. No other information was provided. (RELATED: Eerie Video Appears To Show UFO Flying In Broad Daylight)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) declared a temporary flight restriction (TFR) for a region east of Area 51 that’s five-nautical-miles on Sept. 23. The TFR lasted until Oct. 1 and “National security” was cited by it for issuing the restriction around Highway 375.

Area 51 is a classified Air Force base around Groom Lake, Nevada. According to a spokesperson, the Air Force ultimately took control of the site and cleared it.

In a “follow-on site survey on October 3rd, investigators discovered signs of tampering at the mishap location, including the presence of an inert training bomb body and an aircraft panel of unknown origin that were placed on the site post-incident,” said a 432nd Wing/432d Air Expeditionary Wing spokesperson in an official statement.

An investigation is currently ongoing by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Air Force.

A tracking activity website that focuses on Area 51 coverage, the Dreamland Resort claims the incident was a crash of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), per KLAS 8 News Now. The website is citing recent alleged movements.

Editor’s note: Article updated to note that the FAA’s restriction of airspace was lifted Oct. 1.
