FBI will review three unsolved Biden-era cases, Dan Bongino says

Daily Caller News Foundation

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said his agency is reviewing three “cases of potential public corruption” that went unsolved by the Biden administration.

Bongino said in a Monday X post the FBI is looking further into the planting of pipe bombs in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021, the 2022 leak of the Supreme Court’s draft ruling on abortion and cocaine found in 2023 at former President Joe Biden’s White House. Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel chose “to either re-open, or push additional resources and investigative attention, to these cases,” Bongino said.

“I receive requested briefings on these cases weekly and we are making progress,” Bongino said before asking the public to contact the FBI for any tips.

The FBI’s press office did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The first case Bongino mentioned relates to pipe bobs authorities found at the headquarters of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Democratic National Committee (DNC) on the same day as the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riot. The FBI has released surveillance video of the bombs being planted the day prior but has not announced arrests of any suspects for more than four years, prompting questions from Congress about the efficiency and transparency of the bureau’s probe.

In 2022, the Supreme Court launched its own investigation after Politico published a leaked early draft of the Supreme Court’s opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson. The court’s final opinion in June largely reflected the draft, ruling that the Constitution grants no right to abortion and overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade case.

The unprecedented leak prompted unlawful protests outside Supreme Court justices’ homes, an assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh and calls for accountability for the leaker. The court said in January 2023 that its investigation had failed to identify the source of the leak.

In another heavily scrutinized case, the Secret Service found a bag of cocaine inside the White House days after President Biden’s son, Hunter, had visited in July 2023. The former first son was previously addicted to the substance. President Donald Trump said in February that he wanted to know the truth about the incident after Biden’s Secret Service closed its investigation without naming a suspect.

Bongino also announced that the FBI will have new hires for its “reform teams” on board by next week, kickstarting the next stage of Trump’s changes for the agency. “This will help us both in doubling down on our reform agenda,” Bongino’s X post said.
