Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., is calling out members of his own party for what he sees as a hypocritical pivot toward Elon Musk following the billionaire’s public feud with President Donald Trump, as reported by The Daily Mail.
Over the past week, Musk has unleashed a barrage of criticism targeting the president and the Republican-backed Big Beautiful Bill Act, a multi-trillion dollar legislative package that includes tax cuts, border wall funding, and an increase to the national debt limit.
The Tesla CEO, who recently ended his role in the Trump White House, has since taken to X to accuse the president of various offenses, including personal attacks on Trump’s character and claims about Trump’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein.

While Musk’s harsh rhetoric against Trump gained traction, it also caught the attention of Democrats who previously distanced themselves from the billionaire.
Some lawmakers have begun signaling openness to rekindling ties with Musk, a shift that drew sharp criticism from Fetterman.
“The Dems, we’ve been dumping all over Musk and vandalizing Teslas or whatever, and now, suddenly, we might be more back into him,” Fetterman told reporters. “It wasn’t that long ago that Tesla was like the virtue-signaling kind of accessory for Dems.”
Fetterman, who has broken from his party on several key issues, including public support for Israel and a meeting with President Trump, warned his colleagues not to welcome Musk back so easily.

“I would never want to vandalize Teslas, and the ‘big, beautiful bill’ is wrong for America,” he said. “So, from my perspective, I’ve just tried to be consistent through that.”

While Fetterman remains critical, Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., sees a potential political advantage in engaging Musk. Representing parts of Silicon Valley, Khanna has known Musk for years and believes Democrats should be “in a dialogue” with him.
“If Biden had a big supporter criticize him, Trump would have hugged him the next day,” Khanna posted on X. “When we refused to meet with [Robert Kennedy Jr.], Trump embraced him & won.”
Khanna added, “I’m a believer in redemption, and he is telling the truth about the legislation.”
Liberal commentator and former Obama aide Jon Favreau joined in, reposting Musk’s call to “kill the bill” and agreeing with the sentiment.
Despite this shift, many Democrats have previously distanced themselves from Musk. Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., was among those who sold their Teslas in protest of Musk’s positions.

“When I bought this thing, I didn’t think it was going to become a political issue,” Kelly said in a widely circulated video. “I don’t want to drive a car built by an a**hole.”
