Anne Arundel County Police said three people were arrested Saturday after the trio jumped a man inside a shopping mall, which led to a shooting and then a police chase that crossed county lines.
Authorities said officers were called to Arundel Mills mall around 5 p.m. Saturday after bystanders reported a gun had fired off in the middle of the brawl.
Police said the victim was leaving Burlington Coat Factory when the three suspects attacked him.
The victim pulled out his gun in the middle of the mob assault, and the suspects began struggling to gain control of the weapon. Someone pulled the trigger during the fight and one of the suspects was hit in the wrist.
“The motive for this encounter remains unknown,” said Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy. “The relationship, if any, between these individuals is also unknown.”
Police said the suspects fled the mall moments later and sped off in a black Nissan Altima.
Officers gave chase to the suspects, who darted through Glen Burnie and eventually made it into Baltimore County by driving on Interstate 695.
The suspects crashed their car on the highway, and got out on foot to keep evading police.
Police helicopters from Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties tracked the sprinting suspects, and officers captured them a short time later.
Authorities said two of the suspects suffered injuries in the crash, as did a police officer.
All injuries, including the initial shooting, were described as non-life-threatening.
Officials did not share the suspects’ identities or announce charges against them during a press conference Saturday night.
