Former CNN host Don Lemon expressed amazement during a live video stream of his first visit to a Cracker Barrel restaurant Friday.
The restaurant chain came under fire for a failed rebrand in August that notably included the removal of “Uncle Herschel,” based on the real-life uncle of Cracker Barrel founder Dan Evins. Lemon arrived, and appeared fascinated almost from the moment he entered.
“Oh, wow,” Lemon said as he drove up to the Cracker Barrel restaurant. He later entered the restaurant after some initial confusion on the right entrance to use while he admired chairs for sale on the front porch of the restaurant.

“Oh, wow. Halloween costumes. Oh my gosh. This thing is I’ve never been here. This is Christmas stuff,” Lemon said as he walked through the front store of the restuarant. “Christmas, Halloween, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving. We have it all. Christmas, Halloween, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving. Oh my gosh.”
“This is insane, I’m totally coming back to get bubblegum,” Lemon said before telling an employee at the front register, “I’ve never been to Cracker Barrel, so can we make this a great experience?”
Lemon took a selfie with the employee before going to eat a meal in the restaurant and playing one of the games.
Cracker Barrel announced the rebrand on Aug. 18, teaming up with country music star Jordan Davis, in which it announced the new logo and unveiled several new dishes.
“Honestly, the feedback’s been overwhelmingly positive that people like what we’re doing,” CEO Julie Felss Masino told “Good Morning America” co-host Michael Strahan about the $700 million rebranding effort.
The chain backed down on Aug. 26, announcing that the old logo with “Uncle Herschel” would be kept.
“We said we would listen and we have,” the chain said in a statement posted to the website. “Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain. The change came after President Donald Trump weighed in on the controversy.
“Cracker Barrel should go back to the old logo, admit a mistake based on customer response (the ultimate Poll), and manage the company better than ever before. Make Cracker Barrel a WINNER again,” Trump posted on Truth Social Aug. 26.
