Florida universities partner with ICE on immigration enforcement

Daily Caller News Foundation

The University of Florida (UF) has become the most recent university in the state to partner with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to collaborate on immigration enforcement on campus.

A university spokesperson confirmed the 87(g) agreement to the Daily Caller News Foundation, which delegates federal immigration enforcement powers to local agencies, but declined to provide further details. Since returning to office, President Donald Trump has cracked down on illegal immigration, enabling federal enforcement agencies to arrest tens of thousands of immigrants illegally residing in the U.S., many of whom have committed violent crimes.

ICE has also arrested several foreign students studying in the U.S. who took part in violent campus demonstrations or who have signaled support for terrorist organizations. Over 300 student visas have already been revoked and several students have been deported.

Several Florida counties have also signed agreements partnering with ICE, as well as other colleges such as the University of South Florida and the University of Central Florida Police Department. Under the agreement, select campus police officers can undergo specialized training and will be able to make immigration-related arrests, according to WFTV.

Four University of Florida students have already had their visas revoked, according to the student newspaper, The Independent Florida Alligator.

As of March, ICE has arrested over 30,000 illegal immigrants in the U.S., about half of whom it claims are convicted criminals.

Before he was inaugurated, President Donald Trump promised to declare an emergency on the U.S.-Mexico border and use military assets to aid in mass deportations, which he did on the first day of his second term. The president has since issued a directive allowing criminal illegal aliens to be arrested on school grounds.

Illegal immigration skyrocketed under the Biden administration, with hundreds of criminal illegal migrants flooding into the U.S. through the southern border since former President Joe Biden took office. Roughly 11 million total border encounters occurred at the southern border throughout the Biden administration. Border crossings have since plummeted under Trump.
