Fmr Democratic Rep Admits Mamdani’s Ideas Don’t ‘Work In The Middle Of Kansas’

Former Democrat New York Rep. Joe Crowley admitted Tuesday on Fox News “Special Report with Bret Baier” that Democrat New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani’s socialist ideas would not “work in the middle of Kansas.”

Mamdani secured the Democratic mayoral nomination in New York City on June 24. Mamdani’s proposed policies have come under the media spotlight for how they might impact small businesses and families. Crowley said some Democrats have been encouraged by the energy behind Mamdani’s socialist push. But Crowley also told Baier he doubted the city election would “transpose across the country.” (RELATED: Trump Threatens To Arrest Socialist Mamdani If It Comes To It)

“Well, I don’t think that this election in New York City does transpose across the country,” Crowley said. “What works in New York City sometimes doesn’t work in the middle of Kansas, for instance, or where my wife is from. My wife is from Montana. It’s not going to work in Montana either. So I think we can look at this election, learn from it as well.”

“I think what Democrats are looking for is enthusiasm. I think that Democrats are looking for solutions, and they want our party to be about progress. I think affordable housing in this country is something that is really, really important. We saw that in New York City,” Crowley added. “The cost of housing is through the roof. The cost of living is through the roof in New York City. So we need to address those everyday mom and pop issues in order to really, really be successful.”

If elected mayor in November, some of Mamdani’s proposed policies include raising the minimum wage to $30, imposing a state-level corporate tax, applying a 2% flat tax on high earners, and attempting to generate $10 billion to fund a slew of free amenities. Mamdani has also vowed to end the city’s cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and to defund the police.

Some Democrats have called on the mayoral candidate to denounce the phrase “globalize the intifada” after he refused to during an interview on “The Bulwark.” Others have urged lawmakers to rally behind him. During an interview on MSNBC, former Democrat New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman praised Mamdani as the party’s future, saying the term socialism has been “weaponized” into an “anti-American” slur.
