Former Las Vegas police officer Randy Sutton predicted Tuesday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” that major security changes for large buildings could be coming nationwide following a mass shooting in Manhattan.
Officials on Monday evening identified 27-year-old Shane Tamura as the alleged shooter who killed four victims and injured a handful of others after walking into a 44-story Manhattan building with an M4 rifle. While discussing the attack with Fox’s Laura Ingraham, the host asked Sutton how officials and businesses could “deal” with issues like a potential shooter, as Tamura had allegedly been seen walking around with a rifle while it was still light out. “There’s always ways to target harden. The fact that this individual strolled casually up from the street with a, literally, with an AR-15 or with a rifle down by the side, Sutton said. “An M4, right. Well, tells me that there’s a breakdown here.”

“That CCTV that captured this image should have been monitored by a human, which could have caught this and perhaps locked down the building prior to his getting in,” Sutton added. “And that’s why I believe that there’s going to be a complete reevaluation of security systems, not just in New York City, but across the United States.”
Calls to 911 about a shooter entering the Manhattan skyscraper on 52nd Street first came in around 6:28 p.m. Holding a press conference Monday evening, officials identified Tamura as the alleged shooter, saying his first attack had been on former New York Police Department officer Didarul Islam, who was off duty at the time.
After killing Islam, the 27-year-old then killed a woman who had taken cover behind a pillar before turning on a security guard behind his desk and shooting another male. Tamura then allegedly entered the elevator to the 33rd floor, killing another female victim before turning the gun on himself, according to officials.
With questions swirling about Tamura’s potential motive, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Monday that Las Vegas authorities informed New York officials that Tamura had a documented mental health history.
Four victims were ultimately killed in the attack, with one male in critical but stable condition and four others treated for minor injuries, Tisch said.
