Former Biden admin official dodges when asked about Biden ‘slipping’

Daily Caller News Foundation

A former Biden administration official told “Fox and Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones Friday she was “not in the room” when asked about then-President Joe Biden’s decline.

Several books coming out detail the extent of Biden’s health issues and cognitive decline during his term in office, with one book, “Original Sin,” by CNN host Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson reporting that Biden failed to recognize Academy Award-winning actor George Clooney, a long-time supporter. Jones asked former White House press chief of staff Yemisi Egbewole what observations she made of Biden during her time in the White House.

“You used to work for the president. When did you notice that things were slipping?” Jones asked, with Egbewole responding, “Well, I think Joe Biden would be the first person to tell you, he knows he is old. I think that everybody saw over course of years as he began to age, that is something that naturally happens. At the end of the day, I wasn’t somebody senior enough to be in the room with a lot of decisions. I know Alex Thompson well, I know Jake Tapper well and they have been sourced by a lot of folks, some of them Cabinet secretaries and I’m interested as you are to know what folks are saying.”

Jones pressed Egbewole about her observations while she was in the White House.

“Did you notice they were blocking him? Even cabinet secretaries who report directly to the president were being blocked from having meetings with the president and even when they had cabinet meetings, they were scripted, did you notice the insulation of the president at the time?” Jones asked.

The Wall Street Journal published an article on Dec. 19, 2024, revealing that White House aides “insulated” Biden, even from Cabinet members, as his health and mental acuity declined after similar articles published by the outlet earlier in the year, before Biden announced the end of his reelection bid on July 21, generated pushback from some media outlets.

“I’m not in the room with the Cabinet secretaries, unfortunately, my clearance does not reach that high, but all I saw every day was the president showing up for the American people. In the long term, past all the op-eds and past all the books his record will speak for itself,” Egbewole responded.

“I think there’s a lot of people evaluating what they feel is a cover-up and I think if my old party, the Democratic Party, wants to get some trust with the American people, they have to come fully clean with it,” Jones said.
