In a podcast published Thursday, former North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson publicly acknowledged a lifelong struggle with pornography and sexual obsession, revealing he concealed the issue during his 2024 gubernatorial campaign to protect those around him.
Robinson spoke openly about his struggles in a one-on-one podcast with Pastor Josh Hall, titled “After the Call.” Robinson admitted his compulsions began at a young age.
“I don’t know where that fascination came from in my life, but that’s something that followed me as a young man, this obsession with pornography. I don’t know where it came from, an obsession with pornography, an obsession with sex,” Robinson told Hall.
Robinson then connected his behavior to a deeper sense of personal failure.
“When you’re not being who God wants you to be, and you know you’re not fulfilling that role, oftentimes you’ll fulfill that role with other things,” Robinson said. “Some people fill it with alcohol or drugs. Some people fill it with women and other carnal things. And that’s what I did.”
CNN reported in 2024 that Robinson made a series of inflammatory and sexually explicit comments over a decade ago on a pornography website, including calling himself a “black NAZI!” and expressing support for reinstating slavery. The comments, posted under a username linked to Robinson, also revealed his enjoyment of transgender pornography. (RELATED: Why Is No One Talking About The Female Porn Epidemic?)
Following CNN’s report, Robinson denied the allegations and filed a $50 million lawsuit against the network. He now admits to making the posts, explaining that his reaction at the time was “a place of combat” and that he acted to protect those around him.
“I won’t say that I completely lied. Some of the things about the whole story, some of it, there’s some truth to it. But there again, those were the things that I wanted to separate at that moment. I wanted to separate those things. But again, the most expedient thing to do for the people around me was to just continue to fight,” Robinson added. “And if I had to ignore the truth at that moment for their expediency, I felt like it was the right thing to do. We can deal with this on the back end, but I certainly don’t want to be the person that cost the president of the United States the election.”
