Four Killed In Kyiv, Ukraine After Russian Drone And Missile Attacks

Russian missiles and drones killed four people across Ukraine overnight Friday, striking the capital Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk region as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for more Western air defense systems.

Two people died and 13 suffered injuries when a ballistic missile hit Kyiv in the early hours of Saturday, police said. The strike sparked a fire in a non-residential building while missile debris damaged windows in nearby structures, according to the Associated Press, which cited authorities.

“Explosions in the capital. The city is under ballistic attack,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram during the assault.

The Dnipropetrovsk region saw two deaths and seven injuries, with apartment buildings and private homes damaged, according to acting regional Gov. Vladyslav Haivanenko. (RELATED: Zelenskyy Tells Trump Ukraine Will Trade Thousands Of Drones For Tomahawks)

Ukraine’s air force reported Russia launched nine missiles and 62 drones. Defense forces intercepted four missiles and 50 drones. Russia claimed its air defenses shot down 121 Ukrainian drones overnight. Zelenskyy said the attacks show why Ukraine needs Patriot defense systems.

“It is precisely because of such attacks that we pay special attention to Patriot systems — to be able to protect our cities from this horror,” he wrote on X.

The Ukrainian president wants to purchase 25 Patriots from the United States to strengthen air defenses in cities. He also urged America to expand sanctions on Russian oil and provide long-range missiles.

Zelenskyy made the appeals during London talks with European leaders who pledged military support. The meeting, hosted by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, focused on protecting Ukraine’s power grid and improving air defenses as winter approaches.

Meanwhile, Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev said Russia, the U.S. and Ukraine were “quite close to a diplomatic solution” to end the three-year war.
