A group of four suspects smashed through a locked glass door and robbed a Seattle jewelry store of $2 million in merchandise. The store says no pieces owned by customers were taken.
At around noon local time Thursday, the four masked suspects broke the glass door and three of them broke six glass cases inside the store and grabbed diamonds, jewelry and luxury watches, the Seattle Police Department said in a release.
The fourth suspect pointed a bear spray and a taser at employees during the 90-second robbery, and the group then fled in a getaway car, police said. There were no reports of injuries from the employees or witnesses.
The police did not name the store in question, but the proprietors of Menashe & Sons Jewelers identified themselves as the victims.
“We want to assure you that all customer jewelry and watches are safe and were not among the items taken during the recent robbery at our store. Your trust means everything to us,” the store wrote in a post on Instagram.
An employee, suspecting the robbers had scoped out the store prior to the incident, told the Westside Seattle newspaper that “they knew exactly where to go and what to take, they smashed in cases and took gold, emeralds and Rolex watches.” The employee did not provide a name for themselves.
The store was closed Friday and will remain closed through Monday, Menashe & Sons said, reopening on Tuesday.
“We’re going to be in West Seattle – we love this business, this community is our life. This store is here to stay, and we are ready to rock and roll. This is a sad thing they’ve done to a long-time business. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else,” co-owner Josh Menashe told Seattle’s KOMO-TV.
