Fox News Interview Derails as Dem Rep Downplays Biden Border Disaster [WATCH]

Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-MA) appeared on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday night, where he attempted to highlight Democratic accomplishments but ultimately conceded that more work is needed—particularly on issues such as border security and inflation.

Facing questions from host Laura Ingraham about why middle-class voters are moving away from the Democratic Party, Auchincloss admitted that the party still has work to do to address the concerns of everyday Americans.

“Democrats have an opportunity to answer those concerns,” Auchincloss said.

“Right now, in a Fox News poll, only a third of voters think that Donald Trump’s doing a good job on tariffs and inflation. Democrats have a chance to say, ‘We are now the party of free enterprise, free trade with free people to build a strong middle class with lower costs, particularly in housing and health care.’”

Auchincloss continued, saying, “Here’s how we’re going to do it. We’re going to peel the bark off the health insurance corporations. We’re going to build 7 million units of housing. We are going to deliver every kid in this country.”

The remarks come as Democrats face increasing difficulties in unifying behind a clear message ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Party favorability ratings have dropped, and polling indicates that voter confidence in congressional Democrats has slipped on several key issues.

Ingraham pressed Auchincloss on what Democrats had accomplished during their time in control of the executive and legislative branches.

“You had four years of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. And for part of that time, you had a Democrat Congress. You had all that time. Biden said it was going to be a new era for America. So what happened?” she asked.

“We accomplished a lot in that first term,” Auchincloss responded.

“We got infrastructure, we got chips and science, domestic semiconductor manufacturing. We got gun safety legislation that the Trump administration is now rolling back. We now, though, have to do more. We have to do more on the border. You’re right, Laura. Five million people crossing the border under Joe Biden without documentation was not acceptable.”

Ingraham questioned the accuracy of Auchincloss’ border estimate, pushing back on the number.

“Did you say five million? Congressman, you’re obviously very smart. I’m not trying to patronize you. You’re very smart. And, you know, it’s not five million, right?” she asked.

Auchincloss doubled down, stating he believes five million people crossed without documentation and added, “We don’t need to estimate the actual number.”

During the Biden-Harris administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded approximately 11 million encounters at the southern border, with a peak daily average of 15,000 encounters.

The White House, under President Donald Trump, recently released a 100-day fact sheet claiming a 93% drop in daily border encounters since Trump took office for a second term in January, along with a 99.99% decrease in overall migrant crossings.

Democrats have also drawn criticism for efforts to challenge the Trump administration’s immigration policies, including legal action and trips to El Salvador to visit deported illegal migrant Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia.

Some lawmakers have defended Garcia, despite his alleged ties to MS-13 and past domestic violence allegations.

As the 2026 midterms approach, the Democratic Party continues to struggle with messaging and policy alignment on the economy, immigration, and middle-class priorities—issues that polling shows are dominating voter concerns.
