Famous Jameis! He’s back!
Interim coach Mike Kafka announced Wednesday that quarterback Jameis Winston will be the starter Sunday for the New York Giants when they take on the Green Bay Packers.
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is in concussion protocol and will miss Week 11 action as the Giants resumed practice Wednesday afternoon, several sources told ESPN. The franchise plans to take a cautious approach with Dart, who was not present during the team’s session Wednesday. (RELATED: Pirates’ Paul Skenes ‘Hoping For’ Trade To Yankees: REPORT)
In his first major move since taking over for former head coach Brian Daboll, who was fired Monday, Kafka has elevated Jameis Winston above Russell Wilson on the depth chart. Kafka, who’s been serving as the Giants‘ assistant head coach/offensive coordinator, has worked closely with the team’s QBs all season.
“He’ll do a great job. I have a lot of confidence in Jameis,” stated Kafka, per ESPN, saying that it was his decision alone to name Winston as the starting quarterback.
At 31, Winston will make his first appearance since 2024’s Week 15, then with the Cleveland Browns. He inked a two-year, $8 million contract in the offseason with the Giants, however, he’s been spending the 2025 campaign as the third-string quarterback behind Wilson and Dart, who was named QB1 in Week 4.

I’m a loud and proud Miami Hurricane, but I’ve always loved Jameis Winston despite him being a Florida State Seminole. I don’t know about that whole New York is “the greatest city in the world” nonsense, but this is going to be a fun experience in the Big Apple.
