Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Pushes Gun Control in Pregame Interview [WATCH]

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr used a pregame television appearance prior to an NBA game to comment on a shooting at Brown University and to again suggest that changes to gun laws could prevent similar attacks.

Kerr’s remarks were reported by the Associated Press following the game.

According to the outlet, Kerr said, “It’s just a reminder to me that these shootings continue to happen and there is something we can do about them.”

He continued by comparing the reported impact of the Brown University shooting to other high-profile mass shootings.

“The loss that all of the people involved last night, the loss that they’re feeling, it’s exactly the same loss as all the Parkland families, and every other mass shooting. Nobody asked me about it today. I didn’t expect anybody to ask me… It’s human nature just to think, ‘This is so horrible. Let’s just not even think about it.’ But, we have to think about it,” Kerr said, according to the Associated Press.

Kerr has previously spoken publicly about gun policy and has developed a public reputation for advocating for gun control measures over several years.

Following the May 24, 2022, shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, Kerr addressed reporters after a Warriors playoff game.

In that incident, an individual using a legally purchased rifle carried out an attack that resulted in multiple deaths.

Speaking days after the shooting, Kerr said, “When are we going to do something! I’m tired, I’m so tired of getting up here and then offering condolences to the devastated families that are out there, and I’m so tired of the moments of silence. Enough!”

In the weeks that followed the Uvalde shooting, Kerr publicly urged the nationwide adoption of background checks.

In those remarks, Kerr referenced universal background checks and stated that California demonstrated the effectiveness of that approach.

California currently enforces universal background checks and maintains some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the United States.

Despite those policies, available data show that California recorded more “active shooter incidents” than any other state during the period from 2020 through 2024.

Outside the United States, Australia also maintains strict gun control laws.

Despite those restrictions, at least 15 people were shot and killed at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday evening.
