The stakes surrounding Texas’ fight for redrawn congressional districts were laid out from either side of the aisle as claims of an attempt to “steal” the midterms were countered by a conservative.

Millions of dollars of out of state money invested in recent election cycles for gubernatorial and senate races have certainly proven that leftists are determined to tip the red Lone Star State over to blue. Now, amid histrionics and hyperbole from public officials beyond the borders of Texas alongside Democratic Party state representatives who fled their responsibilities, Texas state Rep. Brian Harrison (R) zeroed in on how the future of the White House was the heart of the fight.
Joining CNN host Kaitlan Collins on Monday’s edition of “The Source,” Harrison had reiterated his point about the hypocrisy of coverage that alleged corporate media ignored blue state gerrymandering before addressing efforts at redistricting in Texas to maintain a Republican majority.
“I’m here to speak for myself,” he began after disregarding Collins’ point about Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) position on the map. “And what I care about is working to make sure that the will, the interests, the desires and, quite frankly, what the voters of Texas deserve to have happen, which is their elected Republican legislature stand up and do what they want, which is make sure the state of Texas is where the line in the sand for the future of the country — there’s no doubt about that.”
“As goes Texas, so goes the nation. If we ever lose Texas to the Democrats, the Republicans will never have the White House again. So, it’s incumbent upon us, people like me, in the legislative branch,” Harrison went on. “If you want to ask the governor a question about what motivated him to do something, feel free to ask him.”
“I mean, he called the special session as a member of the legislature,” countered Collins before the lawmaker reminded the governor chose the agenda for the special legislative session, “But it is incumbent upon the legislature to enact laws the way we see fit.”
Meanwhile, as the governor had made clear that Texas Democrats who shirked their duties and fled to blue states to grandstand and temporarily obstruct the process faced the possibility of expulsion from the House, U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) appeared on MSNBC’s “Ana Cabrera Reports” to spin talking points.
Alleging President Donald Trump controlled Abbott, the New York congressman further claimed Republicans were attempting to “steal the midterm elections” by offering new district boundaries that better represented how the Lone Star State voted in the 2024 election.

“The Texas governor is a cowardly fake bully. He was ordered by Donald Trump to convene a special session of the legislature in order to gerrymander the Texas congressional map and try to rig the midterm elections,” contended Jeffries, who went on to add, “This is a cowardly move by Republicans in Texas. And I’m so appreciative of the courage, the character, and the conviction being shown by Texas Democrats from the legislature.”
“Democrats are going to respond from coast to coast and at all points in between to this effort to steal the midterm elections,” he told Cabrera and argued, “Republicans are on the run right now.”
Spinning further, Jeffries said, “Donald Trump is deeply unpopular. Their One Big Ugly Bill, which is now law, is deeply unpopular. It rips away healthcare from millions of Americans, steals food from the mouths of children. All of this is being done in terms of hurting everyday Americans so they can reward their billionaire donors. And they don’t want to face the voters in a free and fair election. Perhaps Donald Trump and [House Speaker] Mike Johnson and Republicans in Washington and Texas thought that Democrats would not respond. We’re gonna respond forcefully, aggressively and relentlessly.”
Directly countering Jeffries’ claims about the president’s key legislative success, the White House rapid response account on X posted, “@RepJeffries is still lying about the One Big Beautiful Bill, claiming it’s a tax cut for billionaires that ‘steals food from the mouths of children.’ In reality, the bill provides HISTORIC tax relief for working and middle class Americans and PROTECTS food for our vulnerable.”
