Lammy previously said the government ‘sought to keep the Chagossians informed along the way’. In the debate following the announcement of the handover agreement last October, he also told MPs it was ‘hard’ to get ‘one view’. The government repeatedly gaslit, suggesting it was taking Chagossian views into consideration, but in reality hadn’t even met them…
Lammy also claimed the government would do ‘all we can to support them’. Turns out after the meeting on 22 May, just before the deal was signed, the Chagossian Voices group said there was ‘nothing’ in the deal that was ‘any good’ for them’. Jenny Simon, from the group, added, ‘I’m beyond horrified and angry right now.
