Grandma activist whines about being ‘traumatized’ after being detained for pushing ICE agent

A leftist woman who’s been hassling U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents ran to the media to whine after she was unsurprisingly detained.

The woman, a 71-year-old grandmother named Barbara Stone, showed up at the San Diego Courthouse Tuesday with the explicit intent to “document” ICE agents, according to local station KGTV.

She claimed she was a volunteer for a left-wing pro-illegal alien group named Detention Resistance that goes around “showing support for … asylum seekers,” according to Stone’s own words.

Speaking with KGTV, her lawyer added that the purpose of her volunteer work is to “film[] the arbitrary detentions of court participants.”

While documenting the ICE agents at the San Diego Courthouse, Stone at one point allegedly pushed a female agent, prompting the agent to tell her, “Don’t do that!”

“You walked right in front of me!” Stone retorted instead of just apologizing.

The female ICE agent was then asked by her peers whether she wanted to file charges.

“Sure, yeah, at this point, because people are getting out of hand,” the female officer replied.

The agents then went after Stone, who’d already left the scene and was at the time walking toward a stairwell.

She was subsequently stopped, handcuffed, and detained for eight hours, after which she was let go. Stone now claims she was traumatized.

“I have a large bruise there,” Stone told local station KNSD, pointing to a spot on her body. “I feel mentally and physically traumatized.”

Her husband has denied that she did anything wrong.

“She is a soft-spoken person who was here to protect innocent refugees, and she is the last person in the universe who would hit an agent or interfere with their work,” he told KNSD.

Note that logically, his statement didn’t seem to make sense. She was there to “protect” illegal aliens, but she would never “interfere” with ICE’s work? The two remarks seemed to contradict one another.

Stone’s lawyer, Emily Howe, has also argued she did nothing wrong.

“We believe Barbara was lawfully present,” Howe said to station KPBS. “As a well-respected community member, she serves as a legal observer and neutral volunteer who monitors and documents public interactions with government actors; she observes and records incidents involving arbitrary arrests, use of force, and actions that impinge on our constitutional rights and the basic rule of law.”

Detention Resistance boss Ruth Mendez, meanwhile, is concerned that what happened will deter more people from volunteering.

“The fear is very, very real here, and the volunteers that are showing up today are now coming, knowing that there might be a risk of our own detention,” she said. “The message that it sent was very clear: For us to be afraid to come back and do the work that we’re doing.”

“All Americans should know that this is how their taxpayer money is being spent, and that it is really a crying shame. The people who are actually suffering are the people who are seeking asylum,” she added.

Stone faces no charges over her behavior, though her phone was reportedly confiscated and evidently never returned.

In a statement to KGTV, ICE fiercely defended its actions.

“On July 7, a woman assaulted an ICE officer as they were conducting immigration enforcement,” the statement reads. “The individual was detained and questioned at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building in San Diego by Federal Protective Services officers. She was later released.”

“Anyone who assaults or actively obstructs law enforcement in the performance of their sworn duties will face consequences which could include arrest. Our officers are facing a 700% increase in assaults against them as they put their lives on the line to arrest murderers, rapists, and gang members,” the statement continues.
