Gregg Jarrett predicts whether DOJ can stick ‘by the book’ when it comes to Bolton

Daily Caller News Foundation

Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said Friday on “Hannity” that he has confidence the Department of Justice (DOJ) will stick “by the book” in its potential case against former National Security Advisor John Bolton.

The FBI raided Bolton’s Bethesda, Md., home Friday morning on the direct order of FBI Director Kash Patel. Fox’s guest host Charlie Hurt asked Jarrett whether he believes Bolton’s rights will be “protected in this process.”

“Oh, I absolutely think so,” Jarrett said. “I do have confidence in [Attorney General] Pam Bondi to ensure that this is being done legally and by the book. Don’t forget that the FBI and the DOJ were already investigating Bolton back in 2020, but it was apparently then scuttled by Biden’s Department of Justice. So the case may simply be a resurrection. And today’s raid was the next step.”

Previously serving as national security advisor during President Donald Trump’s first term, Bolton was placed under investigation for misuse of classified documents in 2020. However, his case was dropped under former President Joe Biden by June 2021.

WATCH:

Since resigning from his role during Trump’s first administration, Bolton has repeatedly criticized Trump and released his book “The Room Where It Happened” in 2020, which was accused of containing classified information. Prior to the book’s release the White House National Security Council had still been conducting a review for any classified information. Bolton, however, authorized the publishers to move forward.

“There may already be a grand jury, which doesn’t mean he’ll be charged. But, you know, it doesn’t surprise me,” Jarrett added. “Bolton has always been this verbal flamethrower, with more enemies than friends, fueled by what everybody describes as a superiority complex. That kind of arrogance tends to put you in legal jeopardy if you cross the line.”

“Even if Bolton excised classified material from his book, possessing its original source material in your home or office, well, that’s a felony. And concealing it is obstruction,” Jarrett said. “Bolton no longer has security clearance. But even if he did, it’s criminal to remove it from secure facilities and store it in your home. Just ask former CIA Director David Petraeus, who got nailed criminally for that.”

According to a source who told the Daily Caller Editorial Director Vince Coglianese, the raid was related to Bolton’s prior investigation.

“It involves stealing classified documents and weaponizing them for political purposes. Kash Patel and Dan Bongino have reopened the investigation. Hence this morning’s raid,” the source told Coglianese.

In addition to Bolton’s home in Maryland, the FBI also raided an address on M Street in Washington, D.C., according to NBC News.
