The crash was one of several incidents reported during a busy spring break weekend in Port Aransas.

The town, which has a permanent population of approximately 3,000 residents, typically hosts between 80,000 and 100,000 visitors during the annual spring break period.

Port Aransas Mayor Wendy Moore told KIIITV that the community experienced a series of public safety issues as large crowds gathered throughout the weekend.

In a separate incident late Saturday night, a 17-year-old from San Antonio allegedly opened fire on the beach, resulting in multiple injuries. According to KRIS-TV, five individuals were transported to the hospital following the shooting.

An arrest report obtained by the outlet stated that the suspect, identified as Ernesto Josiah Castillo, allegedly fired a weapon during a confrontation between two groups.

Authorities charged Castillo with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Each count carries a $100,000 bond, according to the report.

Law enforcement officials have not released additional details about the condition of the victims involved in the shooting or the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
