Handcuffs Slapped On Benjy Taylor After Morehouse-Tuskegee College Basketball Game In Absolutely Bizarre Scene

For over 35 years, Benjy Taylor has been doing his thing in the coaching world of college basketball. Throughout his career, the skipper has come across some wacky things, but I bet he was never slapped in handcuffs the way he was Saturday when he was escorted off the court by local police after his team’s rivalry game.

The head coach of Tuskegee University, a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) school in Division II, Taylor was seen on video with another man who was sporting a police uniform. The two were having a vocal exchange, and despite things appearing to be calm, the officer ended up placing Taylor in handcuffs and walked him off the court. Things went down at Morehouse College following Tuskegee suffering a 77-69 loss to their rival.

According to HBCU Gameday, football players from Morehouse went onto the court following the contest’s conclusion. Reginald Ruffin, the athletic director of Tuskegee, spoke to the news outlet and claimed that Taylor was attempting to get conference-security protocols enforced, doing so due to football players being on the court which could have led to, well, chaos.

Taylor spoke about this exact incident in a statement.

“I am at a loss for words and I am upset about how I was violated and treated today,” said Taylor while speaking with the Field of 68. “For my players, my family and people of Tuskegee to witness that is heartbreaking for me. I was simply trying to get the football team out of the handshake line as they were following right behind me and the team yelling obscenities! It was a very dangerous situation.”

Later, Taylor was released and managed to catch the trip back home with his team on the bus.

A statement hasn’t been issued by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) on the matter. A recap of Morehouse’s win against Tuskegee was published on the SIAC’s official website, however, they did not bring up the incident with Taylor and the police.
