Anthony Davis in the A-T-L? … And with Trae Young? … Interesting.
The Atlanta Hawks have emerged as a leading contender in discussions about possible trade destinations for Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis, with indications that their pursuit carries genuine weight.
Insiders Chris Haynes and Marc Stein both reported recently that the Hawks are a “real-deal suitor” for the Dallas superstar. (RELATED: Warriors’ Draymond Green Violently Throws Middle Finger At Raptors’ Scottie Barnes After He Dismisses His 3-Point Game)
“I am hearing the same: The Hawks are a real-deal suitor for Davis. Just how far, though, are they willing to go in terms of a Davis offer,” wrote Stein on his “The Stein Line” Substack.
“Haynes also reported that Trae Young would not be included in such a swap, but that creates potential financial obstacles for a franchise not exactly known for lavish spending.
“Davis is owed $58.5 million next season and is likewise known to be eager to secure an extension in August when he becomes eligible for one … whether that’s with the Mavericks or a team that acquires him.”

Davis would definitely level up the Hawks‘ defense, and their scoring and rebounding at that, and seeing Young and Davis together would be exciting, for sure, but I’m like everybody else … how the hell are the Hawks going to be able to afford all this?
Not only would Atlanta be paying Young and Davis $110 million combined in the 2026-27 season, but they’d get slammed in the luxury tax, and for a team who is known to be cheap, could they really stomach such a dramatic change?
Fascinating times ahead for The Peach State.
