Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton faced sharp criticism this week after referring to the ongoing anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles as “peaceful demonstrations.”
As Fox News reported, Clinton’s remarks were made in a post on X, where she also blamed President Donald Trump for sending National Guard troops into California without a formal request from the state.

“California Governor Newsom didn’t request the National Guard be deployed to his state following peaceful demonstrations. Trump sent them anyway,” Clinton wrote.

“It’s the first time in 60 years a president has made that choice. Trump’s goal isn’t to keep Californians safe. His goal is to cause chaos, because chaos is good for Trump.”

The post triggered a strong backlash online, with critics pointing to violent footage from Los Angeles protests that included looting, fires, attacks on law enforcement, and blocked freeways.
Multiple users noted that Clinton had restricted replies to her post, allowing only responses from accounts she follows.
“This is what Hillary Clinton calls ‘peaceful demonstrations,’” posted the conservative account Libs of TikTok, alongside a video of rioting in LA. “Comments off lol. She can’t handle the ratio.”

Several users called on X owner Elon Musk to prevent former or current government officials from limiting replies to posts.
“A public figure and a fraud like herself shouldn’t be able to lock her replies,” one user wrote. Another added, “Hey @ElonMusk, can you make it so that government officials and former government officials cannot turn off their replies?”
The protests in Los Angeles began Friday after federal immigration agents began conducting raids in the city, part of President Trump’s effort to deport illegal aliens.
Local officials, including Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, denounced the raids and issued public support for illegal immigrants.

As the protests escalated into violence, Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to be deployed to the area. On Monday, an additional 700 U.S. Marines were sent to assist in maintaining order.
According to U.S. Northern Command, the Marines are working with federal personnel to protect government property and personnel in the Los Angeles area.
President Trump defended his actions in a Truth Social post Tuesday, writing, “If I didn’t ‘SEND IN THE TROOPS’ to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now.”

Trump also referenced delays in rebuilding homes destroyed in January’s wildfires, stating the federal permitting process had been completed while state and city permits were “a total mess.”
