His “Court Ordered It” Lie Exposed by Jim Jordan [WATCH]

A congressional exchange between Rep. Jim Jordan and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz focused on the decision to restart payments to the organization Feeding Our Future after the Minnesota Department of Education had previously halted the payments over fraud concerns.

The discussion centered on why payments to the organization resumed after they were stopped and whether statements made by Walz about a court order were accurate.

Jordan opened the line of questioning by addressing the resumption of the payments.

“The payments are restarted. Why didn’t you tell the truth about why you restarted the payments?” Jordan asked.

Walz responded by referencing the circumstances surrounding the program during the pandemic.

“Well, Chairman, we did tell you, and feeding our future grew because of the pandemic,” Walz said.

Jordan pressed for a direct answer about the specific reason the payments resumed.

“I didn’t that question. I said, Why didn’t you tell the truth about why you restarted the payments? The payments stopped because there were concerns, obviously or you wouldn’t stop the payments. Then there restarted a month later. What was the reason for restarting the payments?” Jordan asked.

Walz said his understanding at the time was based on how the Minnesota Department of Education interpreted a court decision.

“My understanding was the the agency believed that the court had required them to make those payments,” Walz said.

Jordan responded by referencing statements made by the court regarding the issue.

“And that was false, wasn’t it? You said that didn’t you? You said the reason you said the reason you restart is because the court ordered you to do so. Is that right?” Jordan asked.

Walz responded that he did not believe the issue had been fully resolved.

“I don’t believe that is settled yet, to best of my knowledge,” Walz said.

Jordan then cited a statement issued by the court that addressed comments made by Walz about the case.

“Well, I think it is because the court did something that I just don’t I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it. They issued a statement saying you were wrong in what you were saying. This is from the court. It says Feeding Our Future versus Minnesota Department of Education correcting reports and statements by Governor Tim Walz concerning orders issued by the courts,” Jordan said.

Jordan then read part of the court’s statement.

“Here’s what the judge says. Governor Tim Walz told the media that the Minnesota Department of Education attempted in payments to FOF because of possible fraud, but that Judge Guthman ordered payments to continue in April 2021 next sentence that is false,” Jordan said.

He continued by reading additional language attributed to the court.

“So you said something that wasn’t true. He further states this judge Gotham, the court says this judge, Gutman never ordered the Department of Education to resume payments defeating our future in April 2021 or at any other time. So I want to know why didn’t you tell the truth?” Jordan asked.

Walz said the interpretation from attorneys at the Minnesota Department of Education differed.

“Congressman, the attorneys at the Department of Education interpreted that differently. Both of those judges are no longer on the bench,” Walz said.

Jordan then emphasized the wording of the court’s statement.

“Let me just read the very first sentence, the first seven words, this is not some unnamed source talking to the New York Times. It’s not some anonymous source talking to whatever your Minnesota Star Tribune or whatever your paper is, this is the court speaking first sentence, first seven words, due to inaccurate statements by the governor. Ramsey County District Court Judge has issued and authorized that this following news released that’s pretty straightforward. So the court’s lying?” Jordan said.

Walz replied that he could not speak for the court’s statement.

“I can’t tell you congressman, but the interpretation…” Walz said.

Jordan then pressed the issue further.

“Somebody is lying because you can’t say the court ordered you to restart the payment, and then the court says we didn’t order you to restart the payment. So either you’re lying or the court’s lying. And I’m just asking you, which one is it?” Jordan asked.

Walz maintained that the situation stemmed from how attorneys interpreted the matter.

“I just simply know what the attorneys at the agency believed that it was a misinterpretation,” Walz said.

Jordan questioned whether political considerations influenced the statements made about the case.

“Could it be you were trying to hide behind the court, Governor, could that maybe be the reason why you issued the statements you did, and why the court had to do something you never see done before they issue a press statement saying you’re wrong. The governor is wrong. His statement is their words, not mine. False. Could that be the reason?” Jordan asked.

Walz rejected that characterization.

“That was not the interpretation of the attorneys and and, you know, court or work, you can appeal those congressmen, as you well know,” Walz said.

Jordan asked whether the situation was driven by political motivations.

“Was it all about politics, Governor?” Jordan asked.

Walz responded by pointing to the state’s programs and priorities.

“No. it’s certain. It’s about taking care of our people, which Minnesota does better than anyone else,” Walz said.

Jordan concluded by highlighting increases in spending for several programs.

“The behavioral intervention program went from 3 million to 400 million in five years. The housing stabilization went from 2.6 million, 204 million.”
