Let me hold something, mom!
When it comes to sporting events, one of the best things about them are 50/50 raffles. Yeah, you’re not winning millions like you do in a lottery, but honestly, 50/50’s might be better because there’s a game involved. And you get to watch said game before a winner is announced.
I’ve personally never won a 50/50 raffle, and you better believe I’d love to one day. It would be something that I can check off on my imaginary list of accomplishments. With that being said though, one Newfoundland woman already did, and it created a magnificent scene. (RELATED: Florida Panthers’ Matthew Tkachuk Out Until December After Undergoing Surgery)
Her son, who was a broadcaster at the hockey game, ended up finding out about the victory in the middle of the action.
Based in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), the Newfoundland Regiment is a new organization. The QMJHL is affiliated with the Canadian Hockey League, which is junior hockey’s top level in all of North America. In other words, there are players involved that will be in the NHL one day.
With the Newfoundland Regiment, this is actually their debut campaign as the franchise once had the name of Acadie-Bathurst Titan, and the excitement in their game Thursday against the Moncton Wildcats was at an all-time high. And not just for the game, but because broadcaster Seth Hyde discovered that his mom racked up — $37,770 to be exact.
