The San Jose Sharks are in hot water after displaying a message reading “LOVE ICE” on their Hispanic Heritage Night.
The team was playing the Pittsburgh Penguins at the SAP Center when the controversial message popped up on the Jumbotron, reading: “SJ SHARKS FANS LOVE ICE !! GET’EM BOYZ !” This was met with boos from the crowd, and accusations of support for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
An apology was quickly issued, indicating that the “offensively worded message” was displayed as the result of an “external submission” and was not crafted by anyone associated with the Sharks.

Sharks Sports & Entertainment deeply regrets that this message, which does not meet our organization’s values, was not detected during our standard review process. The Sharks organization sincerely apologizes for this oversight, and we are actively working to determine the origin of the message,” the post reads.
