Blue Origin sparked unity on social media as celebrities and conservatives alike criticized the cringe “crew” aboard the latest space tourism flight.
“Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess.”
As see-through as the atmosphere itself, Jeff Bezos’ sustainability-geared space project embraced the spirit of the age Monday when its New Shepard program sent six girl bosses into orbit, including his fiancée Lauren Sanchez. While entertainer Katy Perry touted “really finding the love for yourself because you gotta trust in yourself on this journey,” some of her fellow celebrities were less enamored by the “end time sh*t. Like, this is beyond parody.”
Such was the take from model Emily Ratajkowski as she ripped into the space ride that also included ex-NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, CBS News’ Gayle King, and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen.
“You say that you care about Mother Earth, and it’s about Mother Earth, and you go up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that is single-handedly destroying the planet. … Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what?” added the model. “I’m disgusted.”

The Instagram account of actress Olivia Wilde included sharing some of the absurd demonstrations of Perry after the 11-minute ride concluded with the caption “getting off a commercial flight in 2025,” as she added her own commentary, “Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess.”
Likewise, actress Olivia Munn expressed prior to the launch on NBC’s “Today with Jenna and Friends,” “I know this is probably obnoxious, but like, it’s so much money to go to space, you know? And there’s a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs. What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous. Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”

Though the base of the arguments varied, similar ridicule came from conservatives like The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro, who asserted, “Blue Origin sent a rocket to space containing a bunch of semi-famous women.”
Making the point that the trip was a “visit,” the commentator noted, “Well, they weren’t flying the thing.”
“I don’t think that counts as a first all-female crew. That’s like saying that if you have a plane filled with ‘I Love Lucy’ impersonators, that … it’s like an all-female crew on the plane. Unless they’re flying the plane, I don’t think that counts. Like, that’s not what is happening here,” he went on.

Having played a clip of the trip wherein Perry was heard singing, Shapiro joked were he aboard, “I might actually just jettison myself into space. It might be a better choice — better life choice.”
“Now listen — very cool. I mean, honestly, like a cool thing. Also: clown show,” he remarked as others chided talk of the space ride being “historic” and SiriusXM radio host Andrew Wilkow pointed out, “@GayleKing and @katyperry did more damage to the environment in 10 minutes than a commercial airliner does all year. But it’s OK because the passengers were all women.”
They were CARGO….ballast, and nothing more. For them, it was a really expensive thrill ride at Six Flags.

Katy Perry kissing the ground after a few minutes in space is so over the top and cringe.

The “historic” all female rocket barely even touches what is technically considered “space”
On the right is Elon’s Falcon 9 orbital rocket, the booster alone goes twice as high as the Katy Perry rocket.

Gonna start calling myself “crew” the next time I get on a roller coaster. https://t.co/rMJryf0RbR

Meanwhile, King remained defensive of the criticism on “CBS Mornings” Tuesday when she argued, “There was nothing frivolous about what we do. So, you know, I’m very disappointed and very saddened by [the criticism]. And I also say this — what it’s doing to inspire other women and young girls, please don’t ignore that. I’ve had so many women and young girls reach out to me, and — men too, by the way — men too that say, ‘Wow, I never thought I could do that, but I see you doing it at this stage of your life.”
