Daaamn! Why so testy, Greg?!
The SEC Spring Meetings are starting up Tuesday morning, however, the conference’s Commissioner Greg Sankey began things a little early Monday night while speaking about the College Football Playoff‘s future.
A solid amount of people in the realm of college football have expressed their thoughts regarding both the SEC and Big Ten, and if they carry way too much power in meetings when it comes to the CFP‘s future outlook. That was on display recently after the CFP committee made the announcement that 2025 would see a straight-seeding format.
After the news, ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips issued an official statement to the press about the decision.
“We all have a responsibility to serve our constituents while also being mindful as to what’s best for college football,” said Phillips. “Today’s decision was done in the best interest of the sport. It may not always benefit the ACC, but it was the right decision, and that’s a responsibility I take very seriously.” (RELATED: ‘Tremendous Rise In Antisemitism’: Auburn Hoops’ Bruce Pearl Gives His Reaction To Jewish Couple Getting Murdered)
Making the situation even more interesting, Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark released his own statement, coming at around the same time as Phillips and saying nearly the exact same thing. It has many speculating the two worked with each other on this situation.
“Today’s decision might not be the best thing for the Big 12, but it was the best thing for college football,” said Yormark, per OutKick. “I hope what’s best for college football continues to be the priority in any discussions moving forward.”
Well, Sankey wasn’t happy with Phillips and Yormark whatsoever afterwards, taking jabs at each the ACC and Big 12 in response.
“I don’t need lectures from others about the good of the game,” said Sankey. “I don’t lecture others about the good of the game. And, coordinating press releases about the good of the game. OK, you can issue your press statements, but I’m actually looking for good ideas.”
