NFL players shared pretty mixed feelings about Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl LX halftime show.
The Athletic surveyed 58 anonymous NFL players between Dec. 11 and Jan. 5. About 59% said they liked that Bad Bunny was performing, while 41% said they did not. The outlet also included some very juicy quotes from players. (RELATED: Hail Mary: Petition To Replace Woke Bad Bunny With Country Legend Gets Over 120,000 Signatures)
Note: Bad Bunny is from Puerto Rico but still an American citizen. It appears The Athletic had to tuck this in after the fact in an editor’s note. The outlet also admitted to cutting a player’s quote that failed to meet their “standards.” The Daily Caller has contacted The New York Times regarding this nixed quote.
“I don’t even know who Bad Bunny is,” an NFC player said. “I always think it should be an American. I think they’re trying too hard with this international stuff.”

“I do not like it. (I’d prefer) anyone who’s synonymous with football and football culture. I feel like there’s tons of artists out there who are fans of the game,” another NFC player said.
One player, who has been “adamant” that country music return to the halftime show, said, “I don’t know who (Bad Bunny) is and never listened to his music. But I saw on the year-end data he’s the global leader in music streams; it makes sense wanting to make this a global performance. Good for ratings.” (RELATED: Super Bowl Halftime Singer Plans To Insult 80 Million Fans, Turn Show Into Anti-America Woke Fest)
However, some were excited about it.

“I’ve heard his music obviously, but I don’t speak Spanish so I’m not a big fan,” an NFL defensive player told the outlet. “But I do think it’s cool to have him, because America is based on diversity. America was built on immigration. So I feel like having him just furthers that American dream. I like it. I like the choice.”
“I think it’s pretty awesome,” said an NFC player. “Some of his music is really good, man. When I was training, I heard it in Florida. I heard his music all the time. And it’s a bop, man.”
Another NFC player said, “Heck yeah. It’s going to be a good time. The girls like Bad Bunny, so of course, we’re going to like it.”
“It’s a little different, but I’m a fan of changing things up, exploring different musical genres,” one AFC player said.
When asked who would be their dream halftime performer, 13 players said the deceased Michael Jackson, 11 said rap star Drake, and 4 said Beyoncé. Several other big artists and bands, including Creed, Chris Stapleton, George Strait, and Morgan Wallen, received 2 votes each.
One player suggested country legend George Strait: “I’ve gotta get George Strait in there, followed by a close Chris Stapleton. His national anthem was awesome, so let’s give him halftime.”
(A Change.org petition to replace Bunny with Strait has so far collected over 120,000 signatures.)
