‘I Hope Middle America Gets Introduced To Her’: Victor Davis Hanson Explains What Happens If AOC Gets Nominated

Hoover Institute Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson poured cold water on Fox News Monday on speculation that Democrats might elevate Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to the top of their 2028 ticket.

A Sept. 5–8 YouGov poll said 38% of Democrats and independents would consider Ocasio-Cortez for the 2028 nomination, though only 8% named her as their top choice compared to 23% for Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom. In an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle,” Hanson said Democrats would regret putting Ocasio-Cortez on the ticket.

“I think they’ve just exaggerated all of her [Ocasio-Cortez’s] talents in this little bubble. But I agree with you. I hope she’s on the ballot because I hope Middle America gets introduced to her,” Hanson told Laura Ingraham.

Hanson dismissed the idea of Democrats nominating Ocasio-Cortez, arguing the party won’t take that risk as Donald Trump’s popularity continues to climb. (RELATED: ‘OnlyFans Type Of Culture’: Democratic Strategist Explains Why AOC Doesn’t Have ‘Broad Appeal’)

“I don’t think the Democrats are quite that stupid. I think there’s not a chance. I don’t think she’s going to be nominated because they’re looking at what happened in the country,” Hanson said.

Hanson contrasted Ocasio-Cortez with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

“Donald Trump’s ratings are going up. All the issues are popular. He’s a success. Charlie Kirk was the most impressive guy under 40, probably in American history as a political activist. AOC compared to what he did and accomplished, it was nothing,” Hanson added.

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, rides the same wave of hype as Ocasio-Cortez. A Sept. 10 Quinnipiac poll reported Mamdani leads the New York City mayoral race with 45% support, well ahead of former New York City Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 23%.

A Sept. 8 Gallup survey meanwhile said that just 42% of Democrats viewed capitalism favorably, while 66% expressed a positive view of socialism.
