Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s executive producer Andrew Kolvet called out Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday during Fox’s “The Ingraham Angle” after she repeatedly tried to portray Kirk as “uneducated” and “ignorant.”
Ocasio-Cortez joined 57 other Democrats in voting against a resolution honoring Kirk’s life and praising him as a “courageous American patriot” who “lived out his faith with conviction, courage, and compassion.” Discussing the lawmaker’s comments, Fox’s Laura Ingraham asked Kolvet about Kirk’s views on Ocasio-Cortez and whether he had ever invited her on his show. “No, Charlie would have loved to sit down with AOC, and he often reflected on her deep wisdom and her insightful analysis of the current moment,” Kolvet said. “But no, I mean, I want everybody to realize that my friend that I worked with for eight years was not only a good and decent and true person, he was a loving father. He was a loving husband. The fact that we can’t get unanimity within our own U.S. Congress to condemn the assassination of my friend, and he’s an American hero, an American icon, he belongs to history now.”

“But the fact that we can’t even get people to agree on that, is really disappointing,” Kolvet added. “The fact that she would put her words in public like that is disappointing, and I hope that she receives all of the appropriate backlash for that, just as Jimmy Kimmel did. That’s what we’re talking about. You can say things, sure, you have the freedom to, but we have the freedom to respond the way that we want, and, frankly, I think a lot of Americans find it disgusting what’s happening.”
While speaking on the House floor against Kirk’s resolution, Ocasio-Cortez said the ceremonial measure would “bring great pain” to Americans who have faced “segregation, Jim Crow and the legacy of bigotry.”
“His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans far from ‘working tirelessly to promote unity’ asserted by the majority in this resolution,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Since Kirk’s assassination, Republicans have condemned Democrats online who appeared to cheer or celebrate the death of the 31-year-old TPUSA founder. Some Democratic lawmakers, including Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, have faced criticism after claiming it’s “f-ed up” for people to remember Kirk for his good deeds.
In addition, several liberal figures and left-leaning outlets have spread false claims about Kirk, with The New York Times issuing a correction after incorrectly attributing a statement to him about Jewish communities “pushing the exact kind of hatred against whites” that they want people to stop using.
Several people, including educators and media pundits, have also been fired over their responses to the TPUSA founder’s death and for spreading false claims about his beliefs and statements.
On Monday, Washington Post columnist Karen Attiah was fired after falsely quoting Kirk, alleging he made an offensive remark about black women and claiming America allows white men to continue committing gun violence.
On Sept. 10, MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd was fired after suggesting that Kirk’s “hate speech” toward certain groups made him an inevitable target as news of the attack broke. Dowd said Kirk had been “one of the most divisive” conservative figures, claiming he was “constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups.”
Disney’s ABC announced Wednesday that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel would be indefinitely suspended following his Monday monologue, in which he said the “MAGA gang” had hit “new lows” and claimed Republicans were trying to portray Kirk’s alleged assassin as “anything other than one of them.”
