‘I Will Praise Nancy Pelosi’: MTG Says Former Speaker Impressed Her

Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene praised former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on CNN Thursday.

Pelosi announced Thursday that she will not seek reelection, ending her nearly four-decade tenure representing San Francisco and closing one of the most powerful careers in Democratic Party politics. Appearing on “The Situation Room,” Greene said she admired the way Pelosi advanced her party’s agenda.

“I will praise Nancy Pelosi. She had an incredible career for her party. I served under her speakership in my first term of Congress, and I’m very impressed at her ability to get things done. I wish we could get things done for our party like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party,” Greene said.

Greene offered well wishes to Pelosi following her retirement announcement and urged longtime lawmakers to leave Washington earlier rather than later.

“So I wish her well in her retirement, but I would like to see people exit Washington a lot sooner rather than wait until their 80s,” Greene said.

Pelosi led the House through two impeachments of President Donald Trump and made headlines in 2020 when she tore up his State of the Union speech. Trump applauded Pelosi’s decision not to seek reelection Thursday, telling reporters at a White House event that her retirement was “a great service to the country.” He said Pelosi had been “an evil woman” and “a tremendous liability” who “did a poor job and cost the country a lot in damages and reputation.”
