ICE Arrests Somali Convict Freed Under Biden, Thanks to Trump Crackdown

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in Salt Lake City announced Wednesday the arrest of Jibril Ali Ahmed, a 24-year-old Somali national and alleged Bloods gang member living in Murray, Utah.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Ahmed had previously been convicted of multiple crimes, including attempted murder, possession of a dangerous weapon, and rioting.

The charges stem from a 2021 incident at a 7-Eleven in Millcreek, Utah, according to KUTV. During the encounter, Ahmed and a companion attempted to purchase several items.

When the companion’s payment card was declined, Ahmed engaged in a heated argument with the store clerk before pulling a handgun from his waistband and opening fire.

Ahmed fired a total of six shots aimed at the clerk’s head, but the clerk managed to duck and take cover, avoiding injury.

Deseret News reported that responding officers found heavy gunfire damage to the store, shell casings inside, and multiple bullet holes around the front clerk counter.

Seven shell casings were ultimately recovered. Surveillance footage allowed authorities to identify the getaway vehicle, leading them to Ahmed.

According to reports, Ahmed admitted during questioning that he was under the influence of “molly” (MDMA) at the time of the incident and had stolen the handgun used in the shooting.

ICE Salt Lake City shared details about Ahmed’s arrest on the social media platform X, alongside a photo of the suspect. Officials indicated Ahmed is now in ICE custody and awaiting potential deportation proceedings.

Ahmed’s arrest and detention highlight ongoing immigration enforcement issues. Despite his serious criminal conviction, there is no indication that removal proceedings were prioritized during former President Joe Biden’s administration.

Critics argue that during Biden’s term, immigration officials were restricted from acting swiftly against violent offenders like Ahmed.

Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, ICE and DHS officials have made clear that immigration enforcement will once again focus on removing individuals who pose significant public safety threats.

Border Czar Tom Homan and current DHS Secretary Kristi Noem have emphasized restoring law and order at the border and in interior enforcement efforts.

Ahmed’s case draws renewed attention to the broader national debate over immigration policy and enforcement priorities, particularly the differences between the Biden administration and the current approach under President Trump.

Ahmed remains in ICE custody as deportation efforts move forward.
