ICE issues $8M in fines to Denver businesses for knowingly hiring unauthorized workers

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that three local businesses in Denver, Colorado, will face millions in fines for knowingly hiring unauthorized workers.

ICE issued a “notice of intent to fine three local businesses over $8 million following worksite audits that uncovered widespread employment eligibility violations,” a press release reads.

CCS Denver, Inc. faced the largest fine of  $6,186,171 after “a 100% substantive violation rate and evidence of knowingly hiring and employing at least 87 unauthorized workers,” ICE reported.

PBC Commercial Cleaning Systems, Inc. faces $1,599,510 in fines for “a 74% violation rate and a pattern of knowingly employing at least 12 unauthorized workers,” and Green Management Denver was fined $270,195 after “a 100% violation rate and identification of 44 unauthorized employees.”

According to FOX31, CCS Denver, Inc. “offers commercial cleaning and facility maintenance services. They have multiple locations. PBC Commercial Cleaning Systems, Inc. offers professional commercial cleaning services in Denver.”

Homeland Security Investigations said it uses a three-prong approach of Compliance, Enforcement and Outreach in its worksite enforcement efforts, using I-9 audits, civil penalties and criminal prosecution.

“Investigating businesses that employ illegal immigration has been going on for decades,” former Field Office Director for ICE John Fabbricatore told KDVR.

“They performed an I-9 audit in which they found, you know, multiple Social Security number probably mismatches and no matches,” he said. “So, they went through with a civil violation of that and fined these companies for employing people who are unlawfully present in the United States and unauthorized to work in the United States.”
