If College Football Wasn’t Already Dead, Lane Kiffin Just Killed It

Answer this question for me: What Lane Kiffin did, how is it any different from what LeBron James did back during “The Decision”?

If you’re not already aware, Lane Kiffin announced Sunday that he will be taking the head coaching position at LSU and will not be leading Ole Miss during the College Football Playoff. This came after weeks of the college football world talking about the situation, dissecting it, going through the ins and outs as much as humanly possible, quite frankly, it was annoying. And very reminiscent of what LeBron James did back in 2010.

I mean, seriously, did you see what ESPN had Marty Smith doing?

They had the man camping out at Ole Miss waiting for Kiffin to make his decision, and in the process of this, borderline stalking the guy with ignored texts actually being exchanged.

But honestly, none of this should be surprising from a guy like Kiffin. Ever since he left USC as their offensive coordinator to become a head coach, it’s been all about him, him, him. His stardom, his money, his, his, his.

Hell, you can tell that from his lack of loyalty on his resume.

  • 2007-08: Oakland Raiders
  • 2009: Tennessee
  • 2010-2013: USC
  • 2014-2016: Alabama (OC/QB)
  • 2017-2019: Florida Atlantic
  • 2020-2025: Ole Miss
  • 2026-Present: LSU

We’re witnessing in real time the death of college football, the transformation of head coaches turning into “look at me” prima donnas, and we all have Lane Kiffin to thank for it. Lucky us.

Rest in peace, college football … 1869-2025.
