Ilhan Omar Denies Dems Celebrate Political Violence After Kirk Assassination [WATCH]

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., a member of the group of progressive lawmakers known as “the Squad,” is under fire after her remarks in the aftermath of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, as reported by Fox News.

Republicans are now moving to strip Omar of her committee assignments, citing her comments as disparaging toward Kirk’s legacy and dismissive of political violence concerns.

In video footage obtained by Fox News Digital, Omar was questioned directly about Democratic voters celebrating Kirk’s death and political violence more broadly.

“Are you concerned with the rhetoric coming from the Democratic base regarding the Charlie Kirk assassination?” a reporter asked. Omar initially did not respond. When pressed a second time with, “Why are Democratic voters celebrating political violence?”

Omar replied:

“I don’t think anybody is.”

Her answer comes as multiple incidents have been documented of individuals mocking or praising Kirk’s assassination online.

Those involved include K-12 education officials, professors, healthcare workers, political commentators, and professionals at major companies such as Perkins Coie, NASDAQ, the New York Stock Exchange, and Office Depot.

Many of those individuals have since faced disciplinary action or job consequences after their posts drew public scrutiny.

The fallout from Kirk’s assassination has also sparked tension inside Congress. On the day of his death, a moment of silence on the House floor was disrupted when Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-S.C., requested that the body also say a spoken prayer.

Democrats protested the request, with some reportedly shouting about Republicans ignoring a school shooting that occurred the same day. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., responded by shouting back, “You all caused this.”

When asked about why Democrats refused to hold a spoken prayer, Omar said:

“We did a moment of silence, nobody prays on the House floor for anybody who has passed away.”

Republicans’ push to remove Omar from her committee seats follows remarks she made to progressive outlet Zeteo shortly after Kirk’s assassination.

In that interview, Omar criticized Kirk’s past statements. “He downplayed slavery and what Black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth shouldn’t exist,” she said.

“There are a lot of people who are out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar continued.

“There is nothing more effed up, you know, like, than to completely pretend that, you know, his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.”

Omar also blasted Republican criticism of Democrats’ rhetoric following Kirk’s death.

“These people are full of sh*t. And it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness, and have, you know, empathy, which Charlie said, ‘No, it shouldn’t exist,’ because that’s a newly created word or something,” she said, referring to Kirk’s past comments on “hate speech.”

Despite bipartisan condemnation of political violence after Kirk’s assassination, Omar’s comments have sharpened partisan divides in Washington.

Republicans argue her remarks demonstrate a lack of seriousness toward violence against conservatives, while Omar maintains that her critics are exploiting the moment for political gain.
