Illinois Keeps Man Who Murdered His Mother In Women’s Prison

A women’s prison in Illinois currently houses a man who murdered his mother in 1995 and hid her body in a bathtub, documents show.

Kmuel King is serving an 80-year sentence inside the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln, Illinois — supposedly a women’s facility — while the state labels him as “male,” according to prison records first reported by Reduxx. The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) declared in 2021 that inmates would not be separated based solely on “anatomy” and that it would respect “gender identity,” though the prison records do not say when or why King was placed in the Logan facility. Logan Correction Center officially became a female-only prison in 2013, The Chicago Tribune reported. The IDOC did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

King was found guilty of strangling his mother to death after an argument and convincing his girlfriend to help him hide the body in a bathtub, court records show. The pair later put the corpse in a shopping cart and moved it into a neighbor’s closet.

In April 2021, the IDOC determined that state prisons must accommodate gender identity, defined as “a person’s internal sense of being male, female, or an alternative gender regardless of anatomical genitalia at birth or sexual orientation,” according to a department memo.

“Transgender, intersex and gender incongruent offenders shall not be assigned to gender-specific facilities based solely on their external genital anatomy,” the IDOC’s policy reads. “A review of each transgender, intersex and gender incongruent offender’s placement and programming assignments shall be conducted by the facility twice annually to review any threats to safety experienced or posed by the offender.”

Left-wing activists have also sued in Illinois for trans-identifying inmates to be provided hormone therapy and other treatments at taxpayers’ expense.

The Trump administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) announced in April that it was pulling funding for Maine’s Department of Corrections for putting a male double-murderer among female inmates. The administration has also sought to ban federal prisons from housing men and women together, but faces legal challenges in doing so.

The DOJ declined to comment to the DCNF.
