It looks like the liberation of British political donations is finally on as the chief opponent to them has been revealed as, er, the Labour MP who left the infamous Treasury note decrying Gordon Brown’s time in office. Yep, it’s “I’m afraid there is no money” Liam Byrne, who is calling for a total ban on crypto in politics and trying to organise a cross-party campaign…
Over the weekend the dead tree press reported Reform has apparently accepted the first ever crypto donation. It’s thought that the donation will be revealed in the next set of EC returns. The Commission said:
“To date, no political party has reported any donations that they have identified as cryptocurrency. Political parties … are required to report donations and loans over £11,180 to us on a quarterly basis… We do not routinely share details of unpublished donations before quarterly publications”…
No wonder Labour want to oppose this new funding route, which will overwhelmingly benefit parties on the right. The crypto community hates Starmer, it’ll go higher…
