INGERSOLL: Lovely Iryna Is A Silent Sacrifice At The Altar Of Deranged Liberal ‘Empathy’

Greetings, Dear Reader,

We’re going to keep today’s short and sweet … and grisly, if I’m honest.

Have you heard the name Iryna Zarutska?

LOVELY IRYNA

In many ways, the New York Times represents the high-water mark for what liberals find important enough to warrant thought. Their coverage – what they select to report in their news section especially – is a reflection of the policy priorities of the liberal bourgeoisie.

I used to say years ago, when people would accuse the Daily Caller of bias, that our bias, if there was one, was on selection.

That old lady who blasts an armed robber off her porch with a legally owned firearm, I’d say, she gets top billing on our site. Whereas CNN and the New York Times wouldn’t even bother, and maybe MSNBC calls her a racist, I’d conclude.

The murder of Iryna Zarutska is yet another litmus test for rank media bias.

News broke in late August that she had been killed while riding the train in Charlotte. A deranged maniac had attacked her. Conservatives took it as yet another sign that crime had gotten out of control in liberal cities.

Then police released the CCTV video. It shows Zarutska getting on the train in her work uniform. She looks unassuming, tired, even a little nerdy. She’s looking at her phone as Decarlos Brown shifts in the seat behind her. He takes out a folding pocket knife.

Then for no apparent reason, he stands up behind her, wheels back, and plunges the knife into her throat.

I don’t suggest watching the whole video.

Brown staggers around afterward dripping blood. The other passengers on the train don’t seem to notice.

It’s a sad case. She was 23 and had fled the war in Ukraine to settle in North Carolina. Life must have been bursting with optimism and new opportunity.

And you’d think the case might be national news, but not for major liberal print publications.

The AP has done more than 70,000 stories that include the name George Floyd. Not a one mentioning Zarutska. The NYT history mentions Floyd almost 6,000 times. Trayvon Martin more than a thousand. Kilmar Abrego Garcia – the “Maryland Man” the media loves so much – more than 50. Daniel Penny – who strangled a mentally ill vagrant who was threatening other riders on public transit – he’s mentioned in 100 articles.

Zarutska? Goose egg. Not one mention to an audience of readers who either have Ukraine flags in their social media bios or literally hanging outside their homes. Not one.

Why is Daniel Penny worth covering and Zarutska not? Their cases are mirror images of the same issue. Mentally unwell people in public places threatening productive, peaceful citizens.

The big difference is Daniel Penny did something about it.

And how did they cover it? They tried to destroy him. He demonstrated agency and in the process, killed a black man, and the media tried to lynch him for it.

Lovely Iryna did nothing wrong and there was no one there to save her. What does she get? Not even a shred of consideration.

My guess is that if there were a Daniel Penny on board that Charlotte train, two things would be true. Brown would be dead and Zarutska alive, and the New York Times would be covering the story tenaciously.

This is the reality the liberal elite wants to present to their readers. The “empathy” crowd primarily feels empathy for the criminals. The Maryland Men. The violent repeat offenders. The cartel members.

They want to hear about how it was actually illegal for Trump to dust Tren de Aragua guys in a speedboat packed with drugs bound for the U.S. They want to hear how it was illegal to deport the “Maryland Man” who beat his wife, transported humans, and hung around MS-13. They want to hear about how Dan Penny could go to jail for doing what law enforcement officers should have been doing this whole time.

That’s what they want to hear about because it reinforces their deranged worldview in which America is the bad guy. And the bad guys? They’re just “marginalized people” bearing the brunt of America’s sinful history.

They deserve a pass, according to this worldview.

RIP lovely Iryna Zarutska. If the empathy crowd won’t, then we’ll make sure your memory lives on.
