Insane Video Shows Bangkok Road Collapsing To Create Gargantuan Sinkhole In ‘End Of World’ Moment

A large part of a Bangkok road collapsed Wednesday, which left a massive sinkhole that damaged infrastructure, triggered evacuations and caused a disruption to traffic in the areas that surrounded the scene.

According to Bangkok city Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt, there weren’t any casualties, though three vehicles did suffer damage from the collapse in the capital of Thailand. Sittipunt also said that officials are under the belief that the sinkhole was caused by construction work that was going on at a train station that’s underground, per the Associated Press. Footage of the collapse shows the road sinking slowly, dragging down numerous electricity poles and causing damage to water pipes. Vehicles went backwards to get away from the hole as it got bigger and destroyed the section of the four-lane road completely. An edge of the sinkhole stopped collapsing next to a police station and exposed its structure underground.

The police station and nearby buildings were evacuated. A hospital announced that they would close their outpatient services for a couple of days, though it should be noted that city officials in Bangkok stated that the structure of the hospital was not impacted.

As a precaution, water and electricity was cut in the area by officials. Per Sittipunt, crews have been working as fast as possible to fix the road, and they fear the sinkhole could get even more damage due to heavy rain.

Taking place from May-October, Thailand is currently experiencing their rainy season.
