Oh yes! College football is so back!
This field goal that I’m bringing to your attention today isn’t just a field goal, this thing is a bomb! And it came out of the Iowa State-South Dakota game with Cyclones kicker Kyle Konrardy grabbing record after record.
After getting a 24-21 Week 0 victory against Kansas State in Dublin, Ireland, No. 22 Iowa State was back to business here in the United States. For Week 1 action, and their second contest of the campaign, they squared off against the South Dakota Coyotes at home. With the game being in Ames rather than Dublin, the weather conditions were much drier, and as a result, things went much smoother for kickers. Right before halftime, the Cyclones were holding a 24-7 lead, but they had an opportunity to bump up that advantage when they got to the 45-yard line of the Coyotes.
When it comes to FCS teams, South Dakota is no slouch, so with that being the case, Iowa State had to take the points while they could get them. So when we got to the last play of the first half, Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell sent out his special teams for an attempt at a field goal.
But this wasn’t your average field goal. Rather, Campbell sent Konrardy out for an insane 63-yard bomb, and well, he made it. And he snagged up a couple of records while at it.
