A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, set to take effect at midnight Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, was almost immediately broken when the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported a missile launch from Iran just 18 minutes after the ceasefire deadline.
At 12:18 a.m. EDT, the IDF posted a statement confirming that sirens were sounding in parts of Israel due to incoming fire from Iranian territory.

The breach came shortly after both nations had agreed to pause hostilities following several days of escalating conflict.
Iranian officials, however, contested the accusation, stating that the ceasefire did begin on time.
đ¨ The Iranian news agency âFarsâ, affiliated with the Iranian regime, reported that âafter the latest Iranian missile strike and a number of casualties, the ceasefire began at 7:30 a.m., Tehran time.â

Following the renewed missile activity early Tuesday morning, Israeli officials vowed to escalate their military response.
Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that he had authorized the military to launch high-intensity retaliatory strikes targeting regime positions in Tehran.
âIn light of Iranâs blatant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States, and the launching of missiles toward Israelâand in accordance with the Israeli governmentâs policy to respond forcefully to any violationâI have instructed the IDF, in coordination with the Prime Minister, to continue the intense operations striking regime targets and terror infrastructure in Tehran,â Katz said in a statement.
He added that these operations would follow the âactions carried out yesterday,â referencing Mondayâs targeted strikes across multiple military sites in Iran.
IDF Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir echoed the defense ministerâs comments in a situational assessment, stating, âIn light of the severe violation of the ceasefire carried out by the Iranian regime, we will strike with force.â
Iranian state media denied that the Islamic Republic had violated the ceasefire, directly contradicting Israelâs statements.
The ongoing exchange of accusations raised further uncertainty about the effectiveness of the ceasefire agreement and whether a return to broader hostilities is imminent.
As of Tuesday morning, the situation remains fluid, with international observers monitoring developments closely.
