IRS Joins DHS in Tracking Who’s Paying for LA’s Violent Protests [WATCH]

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem traveled to Los Angeles on Thursday, where she announced that federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, are now actively involved in tracking the sources of funding behind the violent riots that have overtaken parts of the city in recent days.

Flanked by law enforcement and federal officials during a press conference, Noem confirmed that the IRS has joined a multi-agency effort aimed at identifying the individuals and organizations financially supporting the unrest.

“We also have the IRS here, helping us track how these violent protesters are funded—what NGOs are out there, what unions, what other individuals may be funding these violent perpetrators who infiltrate protests,” Noem said.

“They take people who may be wanting to come and be peaceful, but instead turn these into very violent activities that go after law enforcement. That’s just simply not acceptable.”

The announcement came as the federal government confirmed the arrest of Alejandro Theodoro Orellana, a man seen in viral footage distributing what authorities described as military-grade “bionic shield” face masks to demonstrators in downtown Los Angeles.

“ARRESTED: Alejandro Theodoro Orellana was arrested this morning by FBI Los Angeles on an allegation of Conspiracy to Commit Civil Disorders (18 USC 371) for distributing face shields to suspected rioters on Tuesday,” U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli said in a statement.

“We are moving quickly to identify and arrest those involved in organizing and/or supporting civil disorder in Los Angeles.”

Footage captured by FOX LA’s Elex Michaelson showed demonstrators gathering around trucks to receive the riot gear.

“It certainly seems like gear you’d wear if you’re preparing for conflict with police. Who is funding this?” Michaelson wrote in a post on social media.

Federal investigations have now expanded to include the financial networks behind extremist groups linked to the ongoing violence.

Among those under scrutiny is Neville Roy Singham, a wealthy activist accused of supporting the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a group alleged to be behind several of the organized anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles.

“Thanks to the investigative work of Data Republican, House Oversight will issue a formal document request to Neville Singham regarding his funding of a communist group linked to the LA riots and the CCP,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) announced on X.

She added, “IF HE REFUSES TO APPEAR, HE WILL BE SUBPOENAED, AND IF HE IGNORES THAT HE WILL BE REFERRED TO THE DOJ FOR PROSECUTION.”

Investigations are also targeting other nonprofit and activist organizations accused of providing financial and logistical support to individuals involved in the violent protests.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) confirmed Thursday that he has launched a Senate inquiry into alleged contributions from groups such as CHIRLA — the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles — which he claims have played a role in fueling the current civil unrest.

“Bankrolling civil unrest is not protected speech,” Hawley said.

“It is aiding and abetting criminal conduct.”

Los Angeles has seen waves of violence, vandalism, and attacks on federal buildings and officers in recent weeks, prompting a broad federal crackdown and a high-profile response from the Department of Homeland Security.

Secretary Noem’s visit marks a significant shift in federal strategy, now including financial enforcement agencies such as the IRS in riot-related investigations.

Federal authorities have not released a full list of organizations under investigation but confirmed that both domestic extremist groups and foreign-linked funding networks are being reviewed.

The deployment of the IRS, the Department of Justice, and the FBI in coordination with local and state officials signals an aggressive move to identify the infrastructure behind the recent surge in coordinated protest violence.

Further arrests and subpoenas are expected in the coming days as the investigations proceed.
