If you thought gun buybacks were a ridiculous attempt to curb violent crime, Australia is about to do one better.
In their desperate attempt to tackle crime without actually addressing the root cause, Australia will be setting up drop boxes for the “safe” disposal of machetes. Those who back the measure celebrate it as another step toward ridding the streets of dangerous “weapons.”
Watch:
Machetes destroy lives and we’re taking them off the streets.
More than 40 safe disposal bins will be available 24/7 at police stations across Victoria to allow people to safely and securely dispose of these weapons.

“From the first of September when the ban on machetes takes place, we are rolling out, through Victoria Police at 24/7 police stations, the safe disposal bins. These will be at locations right acros the state. They’ll be locations where people can come and lawfully dispose of any machete they may already have, at one of these bins, safely and securely. And we’ve done this because we want to get these knives off the street because these knives destroy lives.”
What the video fails to mention is that only law-abiding citizens will use these bins, which is a problem that plagues all kinds of enforcement actions. It leaves good people further disarmed while those with ill intentions will have the upper hand by simply refusing to surrender their “weapons.”
X users had a lot to say about the new rules:
“Finally! I have a place to dispose of my machete!” said no-one ever.

So, if I get the angle grinder out and sharpen a second cutting blade, it’s now a sword and not a machete.

More taxpayer money to buy empty boxes that will probably end up being makeshift bins. No machetes will make their way into them. Well done.

Is this a skit?

This is my machete. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My machete is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

Finally, Victoria’s top strategist steps in…
Forget the courts.
Forget the cops.
We’ve got a purple box with a sticker on it.Take that, violent crime… the Recycling Bin Justice System has arrived.
