Israel Takes Out Iran’s Top War Commander, Hints at More Complex Operation [WATCH]

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday that it had killed Ali Shadmani, Iran’s Wartime Chief of Staff and top military commander, in an airstrike targeting a command facility in central Tehran.

According to the IDF, Shadmani was a senior figure within the Iranian military establishment and a close confidant of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

He was killed when Israeli forces carried out a strike on a staffed command center as part of Operation “Rising Lion.”

“Shadmani served as War-Time Chief of Staff and Commander of the Emergency Command of the Iranian Armed Forces,” the IDF said in a statement.

The military added that he had previously commanded both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian army.

The IDF also stated that Shadmani was appointed to lead the Iranian Armed Forces following the death of his predecessor, Alaa Ali Rashid, who was killed in the initial phase of Operation “Rising Lion.”

Under Shadmani’s command, the Khatam al-Anbiya emergency command center was responsible for directing Iran’s combat operations and approving strategic firepower plans.

The IDF indicated that the strike on the command center was intended to disrupt the operational coordination of Iranian forces involved in efforts against Israel.

“In his various roles, he directly influenced Iran’s operational plans targeting the State of Israel,” the IDF stated.

Prior to assuming overall command, Shadmani served as deputy commander of Khatam al-Anbiya and led the operations directorate within the Iranian Armed Forces’ General Staff forum.

“Shadmani’s elimination adds to a series of eliminations of Iran’s most senior military leadership and degrades the chain of command of the Iranian armed forces,” the IDF said.

The Israeli government has not released further operational details, but military officials have described the campaign as focused on degrading command-and-control infrastructure used by Iranian and proxy forces.

In a separate appearance on the Merit Street television network, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, indicated that additional operations are underway and that further developments should be expected.

“We’ve pulled off a number of surprises,” Leiter said Tuesday.

“When the dust settles, you’re going to see some surprises on Thursday night and Friday that will make the beeper operation almost seem simple.”

Leiter was referencing a series of explosions that occurred on September 17 in Lebanon and Syria, in which pagers and walkie-talkies used by members of the Hezbollah terror organization were rigged with explosives.

Those blasts killed at least 12 people and injured nearly 3,000 others.

On the following day, a separate wave of detonations resulted in at least 25 additional deaths and more than 600 wounded.

Investigations later confirmed that Israel was responsible for those attacks, which involved the strategic placement of small explosive charges in communication devices used by Iran-backed groups.

The Israeli government continues to emphasize that its actions are focused on eliminating threats posed by Iran’s military leadership and infrastructure.
