‘It’s Iran’s Call’: Josh Hawley Offers Way For Iran To ‘Do The Right Thing’

Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley said on Fox News Tuesday that the outcome of the Israel and Iran conflict is up to Iran.

Israel launched a surprise attack on June 12, gaining air superiority over Tehran by eliminating key Iranian military officials and crippling the regime’s nuclear infrastructure. During an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle,” Hawley said the current U.S. administration remains open to peaceful resolutions.

“They’re certainly not our friend. I think that’s pretty clear, Brian, and all the numbers, the stats, the data you’ve just put out there. And I would say I don’t think it’s so much about us getting involved in the Middle East,” Hawley said. “I think this is about the president of the United States saying that we’re going to secure this country. We’re going to stand by our ally. Iran has an opportunity here to do the right thing, to give up their nuclear program peacefully.”

Hawley said he rejected any notion that diplomatic negotiations could proceed on Iran’s terms.

“That’s what the president has pushed for. I think what the president said is ‘Listen, you’re not getting a nuke.’ That’s just the end of the story. You’re not getting a nuke,” Hawley said. “We can’t allow that. We’re not going to have it. So it’s really Iran’s call.”

Hawley said the United States will not get dragged into another endless conflict in the Middle East. (RELATED: Will American Allies’ Crippling Covert Strikes Be Wake-Up Call For US?)

“This has been the president’s consistent position, which is that they’ve got an opportunity here. If they want to give, if they’re willing, peaceably, to give up their nuclear program, if they’re willing to come to the table, then the United States is ready to make that happen,” Hawley added. “If they’re not going to do that, then good luck to them. They’re on their own. The United States is not going to bail them out of anything anymore. This is not a president who’s going to send pallets of cash to Iran like Obama did.”

Iran has sought renewed negotiations with Israel and the U.S., contingent on the U.S. refraining from offensive strikes. Iranian counterattacks have caused minimal damage to Israel, with its missile defense system intercepting many of the incoming missiles.

The country’s population, however, spent the weekend rushing to bomb shelters due to the Iranian barrages, according to The Times of Israel. Trump has sent mixed signals about U.S. involvement, saying Sunday “it’s possible” America could join the conflict.

On Monday, Trump, on Truth Social, urged everyone to “immediately evacuate Tehran.” He said this after Israel launched preemptive strikes against multiple military targets in Iran, with both countries continuing to exchange fire. Trump reiterated that Iran “can not have a nuclear weapon.”
